Mon Club International launched Project 1000, an initiative to provide school shoes for 1,000 primary school pupils in Monguno, Borno State. The project, described as “2,000 steps in the right direction,” was designed to encourage school attendance and retention among children affected by the prolonged conflict in the area. Monguno has been one of the hardest-hit locations in northeast Nigeria’s humanitarian crisis, with thousands displaced, livelihoods destroyed, and education severely disrupted. Out of 55 schools that existed before the insurgency, only 11 are now functional, accommodating over 11,000 pupils. Many parents have withdrawn their children from school, while others struggle to keep them enrolled due to economic hardship. Recognizing that even small gestures can restore motivation and dignity, Mon Club International raised funds to provide shoes to pupils across primary schools in Monguno. The project was successfully implemented, bringing comfort and renewed enthusiasm to children returning to classrooms despite the challenges surrounding them.
