General Purpose

The WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) Officer is responsible for overseeing and implementing water, sanitation, and hygiene projects in New Marte, Borno State, Nigeria, as part of the MCI and Mercy Corps project.

 

Responsibilities

Main Responsibilities

⦿ Develop and implement WASH programs in line with project objectives and donor requirements.

⦿ Conduct assessments and surveys to identify WASH needs and develop appropriate interventions.

⦿ Monitor WASH activities, construction works progress, and schedule following the project plan and take appropriate actions.

⦿ Train and support community members on WASH practices and hygiene promotion.

⦿ Monitor and evaluate WASH projects, ensuring compliance with quality standards and best practices.

⦿ Coordinate with stakeholders, including local authorities and partners, to ensure effective project implementation.

⦿ Prepare weekly and Monthly progress reports and any other document required by MCI and the donor

⦿ Based in the field to ensure WASH tasks are going on as planned and mentoring through technical backstopping and training of duty bearers.

⦿ Collaborate with relevant Internal and External technical experts on issues related to WASH.

⦿ Represent MCI at WASH meetings and other relevant technical coordination meetings at the field level if needed

⦿ Performs any other duty as requested by the project manager

Skills and Competence

⦿ At least 2 years experience in the implementation and evaluation of WASH projects.

⦿ Knowledge of WASH Approaches and SHERE Standard

⦿ Good IT skills (especially MS Office).

⦿ Project Planning and Management is an added advantage

⦿ Experience working in emergency response with NGOs, preferably in a humanitarian context.

 

Qualifications

Education, Professional Experience, and Professional requirements

⦿ Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health, Public Health, Engineering, or a related field

Other Requirement (Language(s) proficiency)

⦿ Fluency in written and spoken English. Fluency in Hausa/Kanuri is an advantage.
