On September 9, 2024, severe floods struck Borno State, displacing families and destroying key infrastructure. In response, Mon Club International (MCI), with support from UNICEF under the Rapid Response Mechanism (RRM) Nigeria program, launched an urgent WASH intervention in Dikwa LGA. The project targeted 500 displaced households and successfully reached 582 households, 5,712 individuals in total, including persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups. MCI implemented several activities to restore access to safe water and improve hygiene. Daily chlorination of solar-powered boreholes in Shuwari and 1000 IDP Camp provided over 621,425 liters of treated water to 41,428 individuals. Fifteen community volunteers, borehole operators, and chlorinators were trained on hygiene promotion, water treatment, and community engagement, resulting in a 41% increase in knowledge during post-training assessments. Also, MCI distributed 500 hygiene kits in Rabiri IDP Camp, prioritizing women, girls, and persons with disabilities. Advocacy and community engagement sessions were held with local leaders, while post-distribution monitoring involved 50 household heads to assess satisfaction and project impact.
